The original painting was created at the Imperial Porcelain Factory between 1827 and 1829, when the "Cottage" tea set was created specifically for the Peterhof Cottage Palace. The service was acquired by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, wife of Nicholas I. Created in the 19th century in the Gothic style, like all the furnishings of the Peterhof Cottage Palace, the service blended seamlessly with the interior, which boasted a rare stylistic unity of decoration and artistic embellishment, refinement, and sophistication. Each piece in the service is adorned with the coat of arms of Alexandria in a gold frame with the inscription "For Faith, Tsar, and Fatherland," composed by the poet V. A. Zhukovsky. The original service is held in the collection of the State Hermitage Museum.
